Character Education

At Longmoor, we believe that who our children become is just as important as what they achieve. Through our approach to Character Education, we nurture kind, confident, respectful individuals who are ready to contribute positively to the world around them.

Our Core Values - We've Got DRIVE:

At the heart of our school ethos are our five core values. These guide our decisions, shape our relationships, and define what it means to be a member of the Longmoor Family:

  • Determination - We work hard, keep going, and never give up on our goals.
  • Respect - We treat ourselves, others, and our world with kindness and care.
  • Integrity - We do the right thing, even when no one is watching.
  • Valour - We show courage, take risks, and rise to challenges with confidence.
  • Excellence - We strive to be the very best we can be in all that we do.

These values are woven into every part of school life - not laminated posters on the wall, but lived experiences that shape the adults our children are becoming.

How We Build Character at Longmoor:

  • Outdoor learning and residential visits challenge children to grow in independence, resilience and teamwork.
  • Pupil leadership roles, including School Council, Eco Warriors, Reading Buddies, Early Learning Friends, Play Leaders and Prefects empower pupils to lead with integrity and voice.
  • Class meetings and assemblies provide space for reflection, sharing, and values-led discussion based on current affairs.
  • The WISH Curriculum makes personal development explicit - promoting global awareness, emotional literacy and social responsibility.
  • WISH Focus Days help us deepen our exploration of values in action.
  • Recognition and celebration - we proudly spotlight pupils who embody DRIVE, whether through attitude, behaviour or acts of kindness.

Good moral character is not something we can achieve on our own. We need a culture that supports the conditions under which self-love and friendship flourish - Aristotle
