WISH Curriculum
At Longmoor, we believe that education is about more than academic achievement - it’s about preparing our children to lead happy, healthy, safe and fulfilling lives. Our WISH Curriculum brings together all the essential learning that sits beyond the taught subjects - the learning that shapes character, builds resilience, and empowers children to thrive.
WISH stands for:
Wellbeing • Independence • Safeguarding • Health
It is the golden thread that runs through every part of school life - from PSHE and RSE to leadership, values, voice and opportunity.
What’s Included in WISH?
Our WISH Curriculum is a rich, carefully planned offer that includes:
- Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education (PSHE)
- Relationships & Sex Education (RSE)
- Physical and mental health education
- Emotional literacy and regulation strategies
- Online safety and digital resilience
- Safeguarding education, including how to stay safe in the real and online world
- Democracy and pupil voice, including the School Council and wider leadership roles
- Character development, rooted in our DRIVE values
- Fundamental British Values, such as tolerance, rule of law and individual liberty
- Equality, inclusion and anti-discrimination education
- Clubs, extra-curricular opportunities and enrichment
- Trips and residential visits that develop independence, team-building and life skills
How WISH is Delivered
WISH is not just a weekly lesson - it’s an experience that runs throughout the week and across the curriculum. It is delivered through:
- Discrete PSHE/RSE lessons using high-quality, age-appropriate resources
- Themed weeks and special events (e.g. Mental Health Week, Anti-Bullying Week, Safer Internet Day)
- Circle times, class discussions and restorative practices
- Assemblies and collective worship
- Leadership opportunities and pupil voice activities
- Clubs, visits and wider school experiences
- A school culture of kindness, safety and mutual respect
Why It Matters
Our WISH Curriculum ensures that all children:
- Understand how to keep themselves and others safe
- Know how to form healthy relationships and make good choices
- Learn the importance of respect, responsibility and resilience
- Are empowered to become thoughtful, active and informed citizens of the future
WISH is how we teach the things that really matter.
It’s how we nurture the whole child - and prepare them for life, not just school.
