The School Day

We value every moment of the school day as an opportunity for children to grow, explore and discover - in a warm, nurturing environment where learning, wellbeing and curiosity go hand in hand.

Our School Day Timings

  • Nursery:
    • Morning session: 8.30am – 11.30am
    • Afternoon session: 12.15pm – 3.15pm
    • Most children attend full day combining both sessions.
  • Reception: 8.45am – 3.10pm
  • Years 1 to 6: 8.45am – 3.15pm

Arrival and Soft Start

Children can arrive from 8.45am when our Soft Start begins - a calm, flexible time that helps pupils settle in, prepare for the day and begin their learning in a relaxed way.

Please note: Doors close promptly at 8.55am. All children must be in school and ready to learn by this time to ensure a smooth start for everyone.

Structure of the Day

Our school day is carefully structured to balance focused learning with vital breaks for rest and play:

  • Morning Break for KS1 and KS2: 10.15am - 10.30am
  • Lunchtime:
    • KS2: 12pm – 1pm
    • Years 1 & 2: 12.15pm – 1.15pm

Children participate in a mix of lessons during the morning and afternoon sessions, covering all areas of the curriculum and the wider WISH programme.

DEAR Time

Drop Everything And Read (DEAR) Time is a cherished part of our school day and can happen at any point. This time nurtures a love of reading, giving pupils quiet moments to enjoy books independently or with peers.

Drop Off and Collection

All children from Reception through to Year 6 enter and leave school via the main yard. We work closely with families to ensure safe, smooth drop-off and collection routines every day.

Punctuality and Attendance

We know that being on time is key to children feeling settled and ready to learn. That’s why we ask parents and carers to ensure children arrive before 8.55am, so they don’t miss the important start of the day.

Regular attendance is vital for your child’s progress and wellbeing. Our team is here to support families in maintaining good attendance and punctuality.

A Balanced Day

At Longmoor, we believe in a balanced school day - one that combines academic learning with opportunities to develop socially, emotionally and physically. We build in time for wellbeing, creativity, leadership, and play, ensuring children leave school each day inspired, supported and ready for tomorrow.
