Pupil Leadership

At Longmoor, we believe that every child should be seen, heard and empowered. Through a wide range of leadership opportunities, we help our pupils to grow into confident, responsible individuals who know that their voice matters and their actions can make a difference.

Pupil leadership is more than a badge - it’s a meaningful part of school life. Our children help shape the culture of our school, influence decisions, and lead by example.

Leadership in Action

We offer a range of structured and purposeful leadership roles, including:

  • School Council - Representing pupil voice and helping to improve school life through discussion and decision-making
  • Eco Team - Leading sustainability efforts, from recycling and energy saving to litter picking and biodiversity projects
  • Reading Ambassadors - Promoting a love of reading across the school and supporting younger pupils with their reading journeys
  • Playground Leaders - Encouraging inclusive, active play and supporting younger children with games and friendship
  • Wellbeing Champions - Promoting mental health awareness and helping peers feel safe and supported
  • Subject Ambassadors - Supporting the curriculum by showcasing learning, gathering pupil feedback, and helping staff shape subjects with children in mind

Leadership is also embedded in classroom roles, team projects, performances, trips, and whole-school events — giving every pupil the chance to shine and take ownership.

What Our Leaders Learn

Through these roles, our children develop:

  • Communication and collaboration
  • Responsibility and initiative
  • Empathy and active listening
  • Confidence and resilience
  • A deep sense of belonging and pride in their school

Leadership at Longmoor isn’t about being the loudest - it’s about listening, lifting others, and living our school values of determination, respect, integrity, valour and excellence (DRIVE).

We don’t wait until adulthood to grow leaders - we start in primary school.

School Council

Members of our School Council work collaboratively with the staff and governors to voice their opinions on improving school life. This includes discussing issues that affect the daily running of our school, organising fundraising events and sharing the suggestions of their peers.

Competition

This month, the School Councillors are focusing on promoting the use of reusable water bottles. We would like you to help. We want children to design eye-catching, informative posters. The poster could include catchy slogans, for example, ‘Say yes to refills, not landfills’. There will be a prize for the best poster in Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2.

The deadline for posters to be brought into school is Friday 7th February.
