Creating Behaviour & Attitudes

At Longmoor, our children’s behaviour reflects the strong sense of belonging, respect and kindness that sits at the heart of our school family. We are proud of the calm, caring and purposeful environment we’ve created - one where every child can thrive.

We believe that behaviour is taught, modelled and supported - not demanded - and our approach is built on relationships, consistency and compassion.

A Trauma-Informed, Values-Led Approach

We understand that behaviour is a form of communication. That’s why we take the time to understand each child’s story and support them in developing the skills they need to succeed - emotionally, socially and academically.

Our trauma-informed approach ensures that children feel safe, seen and valued. We focus on connection before correction and build trust through predictable routines, calm interactions and positive reinforcement.

We promote our school values of DRIVE - Determination, Respect, Integrity, Valour and Excellence - not just through what we say, but through what we model every day.

Our Behaviour Expectations Are Clear and Fair:

  • We are ready to learn
  • We are respectful to ourselves, others and our environment
  • We are safe in our words, actions and choices

These expectations are consistent across the school and are supported through proactive teaching, regular praise, and restorative conversations when needed.

Celebrating Positive Behaviour

We believe that children respond best when their efforts are recognised. We celebrate positive behaviour and attitudes through:

  • Verbal praise and encouragement
  • Class reward systems
  • Values certificates and DRIVE awards
  • Whole-school celebrations in assembly
  • Opportunities for responsibility and leadership

When Things Go Wrong

We know that all children will make mistakes - that’s how they learn. When behaviour falls below our expectations, we use restorative approaches to help children reflect, repair and make better choices in future. Every child is supported to succeed.

Behaviour is everyone’s responsibility - and every child deserves the chance to feel understood, supported and believed in.
